Joining the Merchant Navy, especially in India, involves a structured admission procedure.
Generally, you need to have passed 10+2 (Class 12th) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects, usually with a minimum aggregate of 60% in PCM. A minimum of 50% in English (in 10th or 12th) is also often required.
Minimum 10th pass with 40% marks and 40% in English for GP Rating. Some ratings courses may accept 12th pass with any stream.
Typically ranges from 17 to 25 years for most officer-level courses after 12th. Age limits can be higher for graduate-level courses like GME and ETO.
One common eligibility criteria for merchant navy rating in all the fields is medical fitness. Candidate should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms and must come along with a physical fitness certificate. The eyesight must be 6/6 with no colour blindness.
The candidate who is medically fit for sea service under international maritime organization norms will be selected after verifying the original documents.
